Born within Recife, Hernanes is a product of the São Paulo academy and has performed for them since 2001. He was loaned out towards Santo André for the 2006 season. In 2008, as a São Paulo musician, Hernanes won the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão's greatest musician award.
In January 2009, Hernanes was numbered as the most assuring football musician within the earth via the British newspaper, The Times.
Lazio
On six August 2010, São Paulo accepted sell Hernanes towards Lazio. Hernanes signed a five-year contract.
